lots of stuff

I haven't found the time to post anything new the past week, so I don't even know where to begin on this post. Some of the stuff I don't even know if it's worth writing about. I guess I'll start from the beginning and go from there, seeing what comes to mind.

First and foremost, Sean and Matt were in town most of last week. We of course managed to go and drink pretty much every night, but it was just cool getting to hang out with them maybe the last time they both come to Ann Arbor. When we went to Mitch's Wednesday night these random (and not particularly attractive) girls stopped to talk by our table, and for no reason Sean decided to just yell hey at them until they turned to us. The girls were kinda like, "Is that your pick-up line?" which was a mistake since I'm the king of the pick-up line, so I charmed them with some of my worst. Sean and I kinda played off of each other and decided since we had no interest in these girls we'd lie to them, so I became a 26 year old who just graduated after serving in the Navy previously and Sean was a Nascar prospect looking for a sponser to race in the Busch Series. Eventually the game grew boring and we gave up on that one.

On Friday (skipping the drunkenness of Skeeps I realize) Sean was considerate enough to remember just how fucked up I got drinking Steel Reserve in VA Beach, so he bought me one when he was out at the store. We were pretty drunk before we set a foot into Rick's that night. This was about the point that things started to get a little weird... So, this really attractive blonde girl comes up to me while I'm sitting at the table with the guys, and she pats me on the shoulder and leans over me to say, "I saw you when I came into the bar and I thought you were so hot that I had to come talk to you. Wanna go and dance?" I was shitfaced, but I wasn't stupid, so I went (maybe that was the stupid decision). We went and danced a song or two and then she went to go get a drink, and I offered to buy it for her. She looked really uncomfortable with that proposition, and eventually kinda walked away from me and headed off somewhere else looking pissed. I was confused to say the least. To make a long story short, we talked sporadically the rest of the night between her wandering off, giving me weird looks, and dancing with some other random guy. I approached her before I left and she explained that she had just broken up with her boyfriend of 2 and a half years and that I should have been more of an asshole, because as it was being nice to made her uncomfortable or something, like she was disrespecting her ex. What the fuck? Anyway, she gave me her number on the condition that I didnt call her any sooner than a week, but it didnt last in my phone past the next morning. This story is only significant as it was a strange experience to be told that being 'not asshole enough' at the bar cost me her attention, especially after she approached me in such a suggestive manner (her friends told me she had never gone up to a guy before). Weird to say the least.

Moving on, I did some medical research on Monday to earn some extra bones. I basically had to lay still for three hours while they scanned my brain. The only thing that was interesting about the study was that they told me that I would get pretty cold during the second session through my arms and chest. Sure enough, I got such an intense THO (or SNE as I recently learned) that my nipples kinda hurt. It was really a weird sensation. Anyway, $175 for 3.5 hours work, beat that at your 9 to 5.

Speaking of 9 to 5 the second I got out of the study I was called by my previous employer, Dollar Bill Copying (the place next to Ricks), being asked to come in to work full time starting the next moring. I was a little shocked, and even disappointed (as it ruined my planned events), but I can't complain about making money. I got a slight promotion this year, as I work on the computer now as a scanner of coursepacks, much more prestigious I suppose than the finishing (binding and packing) work I did last year. It's actually not that bad, but the job can be a little more hectic because there are constant deadlines every single day, which is hard on me since I'm new and they're always so busy I can't really get fully trained, but I'm figuring it all out pretty well anyway I think.

This is already extremely long so I guess I can't spend too much time on any other topic. Wait, I didnt even mention that Mike, Kevin, and I are for sure signing on at Arbor Landings out on Dexter Rd past Maple this weekend, with Mike and Kevin moving in there immediately. It's nice, my room is huge, and the rent is cheap. Oddly enough, since Mike works at Dollar Bill, we will have to spend about 24-7 together now, but I could think of worse people to do that with I suppose. Alright, on that note, I am out, and I can still think of a few more things to talk about...I might just wait till this weekend.

Full Weekend

I haven't posted anything on here for a little while now, so I thought I'd mention a few details from my past weekend very briefly. The adventure began Friday when I went to a wedding at which I knew nobody but my date, Jenni. It was (don't get confused) my date's sister's husband's sister's wedding. That is a lot of apostrophies. Anyway, I mostly hung out with Jenni and her parents, who were nice enough to drive us around to ensure that we could get as wasted as we wanted, of which I took full advantage.

Round two of the weekend started at 9:30 AM on Saturday, when Adam, Cara, Christy and I headed out to St Joe, Michigan to celebrate Christy's double dueces birthday at the infamous Venetian Festival, which featured nothing Venetian. Our main activity was laying out at the beach, which spawned the immensely popular game of throwing debris down the gap formed in my extremely sexy loose fitting swim trunks. Also of note was the Better Than Ezra concert, which brought back memories of friends of mine long ago who were big fans. They said their first album came out 9 years ago, so in Cara's world that means that I may have heard them as early as age 15. I wasn't too familiar with them coming in, but I recognized a few songs, and they put on a pretty good show.

Sunday night was perhaps the most eventful of all, as my Dad took Adam and I out to dinner to reveal his big news at the Macaroni Grill. Let me interlude by saying Fuck You! Mac Grill, for the following reasons relating to my past three visits there:

1) They write down the wrong order for me and I have to wait 20 min to get the right thing
2) They flat out ignore my order, dont bring me anything, and I wait 20 more min again
3) We put our name in, but they accidently scratch it off and move on down the list, delaying us 15 min, then when we point this out they tell Adam that they are out of salad (Italian restaurant out of salad!?). A few minutes later the entire table next to us gets salad...

Anyway, my Dad announced that he was engaged. I felt a certain level of vindication, as I had actually predicted this would happen earlier that weekend. For anyone who is curious, I am fine with this development, as I feel I am at a point now where my 50 year old father's decisions have less of an effect on my life than the important ones I am now faced with. So congrats I suppose.

That about does it for the weekend. The following week should be equally as interesting, as my friends Sean and Matt are visiting from VA beach starting Wednesday, and Mike, Rabbs, and I are possibly signing a lease at an Ann Arbor area apartment complex this week as well. Not to mention, Adam's birthday is coming up as well. Finally, Mike, don't waste your time calling this a diary entry, as I believe a diary entry needs a little more emotion behind it, like the fucked up goth girls who talk about cutting themselves in guilt and shit like that, something very absent from my rants. Alright, cya all later.

NBA Draft Reflection

Well, a few weeks have elapsed since the NBA draft took place, and upon reviewing some summer league information it appears that some teams may have done their research. Most notably, Dwight Howard as the first pick in the draft was a great idea, as I predict he will be the 3rd most coveted eastern conference big man within 3 years (surpassed by Shaq once the deal is done, and another player he is actually very similar to in style, Jermaine O'neal). I base this prediction on his performance at a recent summer league, in which he averaged 12 pts, 10 boards, and 3 blocks a game, with the last 2 stats tops in the entire league. I know any of you out there who are familiar with the summer leage will question the importance of such stats against teams full of potential 10-12 roster spots, but that's still damn impressive for an 18 year old (his performance is similar to that of Amare Stoudamire a few years back). Also, fellow Magic pick Jameer Nelson impressed with his point guard skills, adding that Howard was far better than he had ever imagined he would have been, sighting his athletism and ability to learn as unbelievable.

On another note, many draft analyists have tried to peg fellow high school entry Josh Smith, a choice by the Atlanta Hawks, as the most likely bust in the draft. I watched Smith play in the Nike Hoops Summit against international pro players a couple months back, and I find that assertion ridiculous. He will not play much his first year, but his skill and athleticism are unparalled in the draft (unfortunately, his lack of court sense and understanding of the game are equally as lacking, not to mention a streaky at best jumper). I see him becoming the next Vince Carter in 3-4 years, a player who can score and make highlights, but never really be a winner. While that was not a glaring compliment, his eventual 20 pts a game scoring potential will make it hard to call him a bust. My choice for biggest bust would have to be Robert Swift, the 7 foot white center who's stock rose by not working out for a single team. I think he'll be decent, but the expectations suddenly put on him are unreasonable...I see a future Nestorivic (Spurs center), a guy who averages 10 and 7. While speaking of white centers, look out for Chris Kaman of the Clips, he'll easily become the best American born white post player within 2 years in the league.

I'll be back Friday

I know that whatever people out there periodically read this may also be wondering where the hell I am right now. I was even told by a roommate that some calls have been made inquiring my location (why didnt they call me?) and time of return. Well, upon going to VA beach for the 4th of July weekend I decided that there was very little reason to return any time soon and I extended the trip about 3 days to chill and hang out a day in DC while I was at it. I apologize to anyone I didnt keep in touch with if they needed anything, as I pretty much never call people back home when I'm on vacation because when I'm gone I kinda treat it like a short sobatical. Anyway, all indications are I'll be back Friday morning (I am writing this from my brother's computer in Toledo). Hope to see you all tomorrow, and I will certainly be eager to go out tomorrow night, so whoever reads this drop me a message (also, my brother may even make a surprise guest appearance tomorrow).

If I were a girl...

Yes, that title could certainly be followed by much more interesting content than I will go into today. All I'm really interested in is a question I asked of my roommates on the porch the other day. There are a lot of names out there that can either double as girls or guys names, as well as many other names that could easily be transferred from one sex to another (steve=stephanie, andy=andrea, etc). I inquired if there was any alternative to Scott in the female name department, and nobody could think of a reasonable response (I made up Scottina, but didnt think that was really a very good name). If anyone out there has any alternative suggestions give me a hint by dropping a comment.
